CERW Member Loretta Torres Pens Letter to Editor

Chico Evening Republican Women Parliamentarian Loretta Torres penned a letter to the editor of the Chico Enterprise Record on November 10, 2024. This letter was published and reads as follows:

Dear Editor:

Trump’s election leaves many Americans worried that the future will never be the same again: they are correct! But not in the way most of the media has portrayed it.

We will never see the same Republican/Democrat party tug of war again! The new Republican Party has redefined itself to include many different ideals. Most of these ideals reject the “good ‘old boy politics in the smokey back rooms of Washington DC.” Those days are over.

Like Trump or Hate him he has brought people as diverse as Franklin Graham, RFK Jr, and Elon Musk together under the banner of “Make America Great!” The media has for years tried to divide this country into Black, Hispanic, white, gay or straight, male or female. It worked! Division allowed the politicians to keep their power. Until now.

My hope is: you will never allow the media and the current old-guard politicians to pull us apart again. I’m hoping the voices “vowing to resist”, to “never allow Trump to win his agenda”, will realize America’s stronger when we work together to better our country, as imperfect as it may be. We’re all in the same wagon, pulling it together will get us over the rough spots in our country’s journey.

I have a sign in front of my house. It reads: “Love Not Hate Makes America Great!” We’ve a chance to be part of this new way forward! Don’t let the divisions of the past cloud the possibilities of our future.
